About

Welcome

We are a friendly, welcoming traditional country pub that offers great food and a wide range of drinks. We have five real ales, a good choice of ciders, a great selection of wines and spirits and an extensive gin menu.

We’re ideally situated for walkers, ramblers and cyclists who wish to explore The North Dorset Trailway, The Jubilee Trail and Hambledon & Hod Hill.

Chris, Alison and their team provide a warm, friendly and welcoming atmosphere for you to enjoy. Whether you are dining with us or just enjoying a pint by the fire we would love to see you. Families with children are very welcome. We love to have dogs in the pub and allow them in the bar area as well as the outside areas and offer dog bowls and complimentary treats.

Great Welcome

The last few weeks my mother and I have been for lunch 3 times and today we visited with my brother and his wife on holiday from Cheshire. The team at The Whitehorse did not let us down, serving us their lovely Steak and Ale Puddings. Delicious. The staff are so welcoming, funny and kind, every time we come. Thank you for your thoughtfulness.

Lovely staff (and loos!) and the food is good too

Very welcoming and accommodating staff make all the difference to a rare meal out. Extra ice cream for the children was a bonus. We will definitely revisit as it's in a handy position on the trailway, in the lovely village of Stourpaine.

Excellent family meal

Having visited for drinks several times and looking at the menu we thought we should try the food. We were warmly welcomed and I started with an excellent beer from the Sixpenny Handley brewery. Followed by a second! The service was first rate, orders were taken promptly. The food was presented well and was very tasty. There was no rush and we had a lovely relaxing evening. Being seniors, we were all entitled to their meal deal. All in all a fantastic meal.

1st class lambs liver

We came upon the White Horse Inn while driving home from visiting family and the moment we walked in we were made welcome. Great range of local beers and soft drinks, the specials board have 2 of my favourite and the menu was also very tempting. After much deliberation, we made of order and we were not disappointed with our choices, the lambs liver was perfectly cook and come with plenty of vegetables, and my chilli and rice was perfect cooked, all served on Hot plates. All staff were very friendly polite, will be on our favourite list when traveling that way next time. Credit were it due, thank you for making us welcome.

Excellent choice

Very friendly welcome. Family of six ranging from 87 years old to 4 years old, plus two dogs! Although we hadn't booked we were welcomed and accommodated and we were not disappointed. Excellent steak and ale pudding, tasty children's meals and succulent steaks. Even biscuits for the dogs! Would certainly recommend and can't wait to revisit.

Something for everyone

It's not often you find a good old English pub, filled with good beer & a good selection of food, set within a nostalgic atmosphere. Well done to Chris & Ali who work hard to maintain such high standards.

Butcher’s Board simply delightful!

Popped in for a lunch-time treat as it was bank holiday Monday. I was pleasantly surprised by the warm atmosphere in what is a traditional English inn - loved the sharing Butcher's Board which had a good selection of meats, pate, fruit, bread to die for and a reasonable price tag for two. There were 3 different sharing boards to suit your palette and lots of really good food on the menu. Service was excellent and loved the quotes adorning the walls. Well worth a visit with free wi-fi to boot!

Consistent quality and service

I have just had a fabulous celebratory lunch with a large group of friends. I had planned this group of 20, with pre-order and everything came out brilliantly. Food was fantastic!! Service was superb, and a memorable day for all of us. Great value, extremely friendly pub. No wonder they are winning awards!
